The Working Group on Coupled Modelling (WGCM) is seeking global experts dedicated to reviewing and promoting the development of coupled climate and Earth system models. The goal of this group includes organising model intercomparisons and using both instrumental records and paleoclimatic data for model validation and diagnosis of deficiencies. The group promotes coordinated experiments with coupled models to understand natural climate variability on decadal to centennial time scales and its predictability, and to predict and understand past and future responses of the climate system to changes in natural and anthropogenic forcing. WGCM, in collaboration with many groups and partners within WCRP and beyond, is overseeing the ongoing Coupled Model Intercomparison Project, which is now entering its seventh phase (CMIP7).
We invite applicants with expertise and experience in the area of Earth system modelling, and sufficiently engaged with their local modeling community to take part in decision-making processes and to contribute their insights to one or more areas of WGCM’s work.
The initial membership term is 4 years, with the option to renew for up to two additional two-year terms.
This is an excellent opportunity to help advance climate prediction within WCRP and beyond, while collaborating with leading experts in Earth system modeling.
To apply, please submit your application by January 31, 2025 by completing this application form.
