The Joint Scientific Committee (JSC) is the highest-level steering body of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP), providing leadership for international climate research. The JSC is composed of world-leading scientists from diverse disciplines—including both natural and social sciences—who guide WCRP’s scientific strategy and organizational direction.

The JSC also oversees the actions and work of the Earth System Modelling and Observations (ESMO) project, ensuring its alignment with WCRP’s broader goals of advancing climate science.

We invite nominations for exceptional scientists with a strong track record, strategic vision, and expertise relevant to WCRP’s mission. Members are selected based on their scientific excellence and leadership, with final appointments approved by WCRP’s sponsoring organizations:

  • World Meteorological Organization (WMO)
  • Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO)
  • International Science Council (ISC)

About the nomination process and role:
