The Climate Forecast (CF) Conventions community has been honored with the prestigious AGU Open Science Recognition Prize for their exceptional contributions to advancing Open Science in Earth and space sciences. This award highlights CF’s global impact in fostering transparency, collaboration, and accessibility in climate and geoscience data.
The CF Conventions are a cornerstone for standardizing metadata in climate and forecast datasets, enabling interoperability and enhancing usability across diverse applications. Receiving this award underscores their importance in the scientific community and their role in empowering global research efforts.
In tandem with this recognition, CF achieved two significant milestones to close out 2024:
- Release of CF Version 1.12: In December 2024, CF published the latest version of its conventions, CF version 1.12. The updated document is now available online, incorporating refinements and additions to better serve the evolving needs of the climate research community. The document now includes a DOI, simplifying its citation and reference. Read the full document here.
- Publication of the CF Workshop Proceedings: A comprehensive summary of the CF workshop, held at SMHI, Norrköping, Sweden on 17-20 September 2024, has been made available on Zenodo. The workshop focused on broadening CF’s impact across diverse user communities, inviting wider participation in the CF community effort, and strengthening interoperability with other widely adopted standards. Experts and stakeholders convened together to discuss updates and future directions for the CF Conventions. Access the workshop summary on Zenodo.
These achievements demonstrate CF’s ongoing commitment to fostering collaboration and innovation in the climate science domain. With these milestones, CF continues to set the benchmark for open, standardized, and accessible data practices in Earth and space science research.
