Efficiently bridging the gap between global climate simulations and the provision of relevant data to end users remains a critical challenge for climate data users. In response, CMIP, in collaboration with CORDEX, ISIMIP, ISMIP7, GlacierMIP, and others, is spearheading a collaborative effort to improve this process.

This workshop offers an opportunity to explore best practices, investigate shared selection criteria, enhance communication and data infrastructures, and develop community tools to accelerate the delivery of actionable climate data.

Workshop Goals:

  • Identify scientific and technical challenges in the current framework.
  • Develop a shared understanding of model selection techniques used across various communities.
  • Assess the feasibility and value of shared criteria for model selection.
  • Establish structures to improve communication between modeling centers and downstream activities.
  • Accelerate the transition from global simulations to regional downscaling, impact modeling, and data provision to end users.
  • Identify pathways for developing and funding the necessary scientific and technical frameworks.
  • Evaluate whether these goals can be achieved within the CMIP7 timeline or require a longer-term approach.

The workshop will include breakout group discussions where participants will actively engage in shaping strategies and solutions.
