The journal Meteorological Applications invites researchers to submit original studies for an upcoming special issue focused on Recent Advancements in Forecast Verification Research. This special issue seeks to highlight cutting-edge methodological developments and innovative applications in assessing the quality of weather and climate forecasts—an area crucial for enhancing early warning systems and supporting socio-economic decision-making.
Topics of Interest
This special issue welcomes submissions on a wide range of topics, including:
- Diagnostics of physical processes in forecasts
- Spatial verification and error tracking
- High-impact weather and extreme event verification
- Incorporation of unconventional data sources (e.g., citizen science, social media) in verification
- Probabilistic and ensemble forecast verification
- User-focused verification and forecast value assessment
- AI and machine learning in forecast verification
Researchers from the recent International Verification Methods Workshop (Cape Town, May 2024) are encouraged to submit their work, though submissions are open to all experts in the field. Contributions from WMO projects on topics such as polar verification, urban modeling, and hydrological forecasting are particularly welcome.
