The WMO/World Weather Research Programme (WWRP) invites professionals from across the globe to apply for membership in several of its Working Groups. These groups play a pivotal role in advancing weather science and aligning with the WWRP’s Implementation Plan for 2024-2027. Starting from January 1, 2025, selected candidates will serve a four-year term, contributing to innovative research and impactful projects. We especially encourage applications from Early Career Professionals eager to make a difference.

1. Working Group on Data Assimilation and Observing Systems (DAOS)
- Positions Available: 3
- Targeted Expertise:
- Polar observations and applications
- Urban observations and applications
- Machine Learning
- Emerging observational technologies
- Regional Focus: Encourages applications from WMO Region I (Africa), WMO Region III (South America), and WMO Region V (Southwest Pacific).
2. Working Group on Tropical Meteorology Research (TMR)
- Position Available: 1
- Targeted Expertise:
- Sub-seasonal to seasonal prediction of tropical cyclones, monsoons, or tropical precipitation
- Use of AI/ML in analyzing and predicting tropical processes
- Regional Focus: Strongly encourages applications from WMO Region I (Africa), WMO Region III (South America), and WMO Region V (Southwest Pacific).
3. Working Group on Predictability, Dynamics, and Ensemble Forecasting (PDEF)
- Positions Available: 2
- Targeted Expertise:
- Urban modeling
- Machine Learning for weather prediction
- Research-to-Operations (R2O) experience, especially in meteorology and Earth system sciences
- Translating scientific advancements into operational forecasting
- Regional Focus: Welcomes applications from WMO Region I (Africa), WMO Region III (South America), and WMO Region V (Southwest Pacific).
4. Working Group on Nowcasting and Mesoscale Research (NMR)
- Positions Available: 2
- Targeted Expertise:
- Boundary layer processes
- Urban meteorology and hectometric modeling
- Machine Learning
- Emerging nowcasting technologies
- Regional Focus: Prioritizes applications from WMO Region I (Africa), WMO Region III (South America), and WMO Region V (Southwest Pacific).
5. Joint Working Group on Forecast Verification Research (JWGFVR)
- Positions Available: 2
- Targeted Expertise:
- Verification of tropical cyclone forecasts
- Verification of artificial intelligence forecasts
- Development of community verification software/systems
- Regional Focus: Interested in candidates from WMO Region I (Africa), WMO Region III (South America), and WMO Region V (Southwest Pacific).
